Your UQ Mail

Your UQ mail is accessed with a username that starts with 'uq' and a password by log in through a web interface into 'My.UQ Sign In' at https://staff.my.uq.edu.au/.

This is the e-mail address that is used for any official electronic correspondence from UQ. If you are like me and check your 'My.UQ' once in a blue moon, you are missing once in while important messages (such as correspondence from TEDI). This page explains how to forward your e-mail to your favorite mail account which sits probably in your school or centre.

Forwarding your UQ Mail to your favorite mail account

Supposing your name is 'John Smith', your UQ Sign In will be 'uqjsmith'. Any email sent to j.smith@uq.edu.au (or other aliases) will need to be retrieved by login to 'My.UQ Sign In'.
Let's suppose that John Smith has an e-mail account in his school (for instance js@school.uq.edu.au) and accesses his e-mail with Mozilla Mail. The trick is to have your mail software download the e-mail from 'My UQ'.

The following are instructions for Mozilla users but should not be too different if you are using another mail software.

• load Mozilla and open the Mail window by selecting  Mail & Newsgroups from the Window menu or clicking on the Mail icon at the botton left of the Mozilla browser.

• select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings ... from the Edit menu: the 'Account Settings' window will appear. It should aready have information about your school mail server.

• click on Add Account ... and the New Account Setup window will appear. Make sure Email account is selected as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1

• Type in your name and your UQ e-mail address: it should be something like 'j.smith@uq.edu.au'. See Figure 2

Figure 2

• Select IMAP and type imap.uq.edu.au as the Incoming Server as on Figure 3.

Figure 3

• Type in the username you use to access MyUQ: it should start with "uq". For J. Smith it is uqjsmith. See Figure 4.

Figure 4

• Type in an Account Name: this will be the name that Mozilla will use; it can be anything, for instance 'MyUQj.smith' as in Figure 5.

Figure 5

• Check the details and click on Finish if happy. The outgoing user name should be the username for your Mozilla principal mail account and the Outgoing Server Name whatever mail server you are using in your school. See Figure 6.

Figure 6

• After Clicking Finish you should get a similar window to Figure 7 when you click on the account name you provided earlier (MyUQj.smith in this case). See  Figure 7.

Figure 7

• The serving settings should be similar to what is on Figure 8: your username should be the username you use to access MyUQ.

Figure 8

• Below your main account, you should notice the new account (in this case it is 'MyUQj.smith'). See Figure 9.

Figure 9

• Select by clicking on the account you have created: it should become highlighted.  See Figure 10.

Figure 10

• Click on the Get Msgs button (Figure 11) on Mozilla to download your UQ mail.

Figure 11

• A pop up window (Figure 12) will ask for your password: enter the password you use to access MyUQ: your e-mail should be downloaded.

Et voila ...
