Metacity is the GNOME2 window manager that comes with Fedora Core. If you find it's window placement policy annoying (i.e. application windows not appearing on the current Xinerama screen with the mouse pointer, but on another one), then you might find a solution here.
The Metacity RPMs below contain a one-line patch which forces Metacity to use the current Xinerama screen for window placement.
To upgrade to the newer modified metacity, issue something like the following on the command line:
rpm -Uvh metacity-2.16.0-6.fc6.i386.rpm
Some applications like Mozilla will still completely ignore Metacity's window placement policy, a workaround is to issue the following on the command line:
gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/metacity/general/disable_workarounds true
Note: log-out and login after installing the new metatcity RPM and issuing the gconftool-2 command, as a window manager restart is required for the changes to take effect.
Only the i386 RPMS are supplied, the x86-64 RPMs can be built from the source RPM by issuing something like the following:
rpmbuild --rebuild metacity-2.16.0-6.fc6.src.rpm
| RPM: metacity-2.6.3-2.i386.rpm (FC1) | SRPM: metacity-2.6.3-2.src.rpm (FC1) |
