 JPG Video Services 2.6 for Access Grid Toolkit 3
A set of AG node service enabling PAL and NTSC size video streams using vic's built in JPEG codec. Configuration and usage is exactly the same as normal H261 video (via "Configure node services..."). Services provided are JPGVideoProducerService, JPGVideoConsumerService and JPGVideoService. They are intended for use with version 3 of the Access Grid toolkit. Each service uses the system's vic to provide an Access Grid node service offering JPEG compressed PAL/NTSC video at quality and frame rates dependent on the capacity of the host machine.

NB: Debuntu users can use apt-get or synaptic to install a package containing these services if the UQVislab repository is included as a software source (as it would be if the AG toolkit itself is installed this way). Packages are available for Debian etch & lenny and Ubuntu hardy & intrepid. Simply install the jpgvideoservices3 package using apt-get or synaptic.

Similarly, users of Slackware and Slamd64 (12.1 only) can use slapt-get or Gslapt to install the jpgvideoservices3 package.

Installation Instructions and Notes

Linux and MacOSX
    For Debuntu & Slackware/Slamd64, use of the respective package manager is the preferred methof of installation. Otherwise, installation must be performed as root or by using sudo, using the downloadable tarball above.
    • unpack the download bundle with the shell command:
      tar zxvf JPGVideoServices3-2.6.tar.gz
    • enter the directory which the unpacking creates and run the install script:
      cd JPGVideoServices3-2.6
      sudo ./installjpg.sh

Usage:
    After installation, all of the three new JPG video services should be listed along with previously installed services when adding services using the VenueClient's Node Management widget. These can then be configured like a normal H.261 video stream.

Issues

None known at this time for the service packages themselves. Please email any problems to the contact address below so that they can be resolved.

However Linux users may notice that vic may have severely discoloured video. If this is the case, please update to the latest version from the UQVislab repository in which the problem has been fixed.
